March 22nd is World Water Day and this year’s focus is about accelerating change to solve the water and sanitation crisis.
Here at PSS we make it a priority to regularly look at our significant environmental impacts and see what more we can do to better manage them. We’re very aware that water usage is significant in the cleaning industry and so reviewing what improvements and changes we could make seemed imperative. Through relatively small changes it is possible to reduce water usage by up to 20 litres per day – which coincidently is the minimum amount of water a person needs per day to drink, cook, and wash as indicated by the World Health Organisation. These steps include:
- Flat mopping
- Mopping systems designed to reduce water usage
- Flushing water once at the end of a shift outside of public hours
- Filling scrubber dryers to only the required amount necessary and not to the top
